CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION MEETING
CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO
Tuesday, March 25, 2025
I. CALL TO ORDER: 6:30 p.m.

VI. PRESENTATIONS
Art Gallery Shows
Commissioner Pomposo informed the Commission that the Youth Art Show will take
place April 11 through April 12 at the Library | Parks and Recreation Center (LPR). The extended exhibit will run through May 15.
Specialist Santos added that Friday, April 11 will feature a performance from the El Camino High School Jazz Combo and the Parks and Recreation Department ballet students. Saturday, April 12 will feature youth Mexican Folklorico dance.
Commissioners are highly encouraged to attend as this art show is typically very well
attended by the public.

Business Manager O’Brien informed the Commission that staff are in contract with art consultant, Ann Berchtold from MIG for three capital improvement projects. Staff will
work with the subcommittee as projects evolve.

Cultural Activities Grant Awards FY 2023-24
On behalf of Management Analyst, Kari Jung, Business Manager O’Brien presented
an update on the 2024 Cultural Activities Grant awards to the Commission. Staff recommended the approval of the amended allocation of Cultural Activities Grant Program funding.

VIII. ITEMS FROM COMMISSIONERS:
Commissioner Ramos inquired about setting up a day trip to visit artwork sites in the City. Commissioner Huerta suggested using the South City Shuttle to visit the art sites and to promote local art. Business Manager O’Brien informed the Commission that staff will
follow-up on this item.
IX. ITEMS FROM STAFF
Specialist Santos informed the Commission about California Senate Bill 456, that would exempt muralists from being licensed contractors. The deadline to provide feedback to the Senate on the bill is March 26, 2025.
Specialist Santos also informed the Commission that the LPR has been selected to host Congressman Kevin Mullin’s 2025 Congressional Arts Competition. High school students
are invited to submit their art by April 9. The winning artwork will be displayed at the
U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The exhibition at LPR will be from April 17 through April 24. Business Manager O’Brien added that the exhibition happens to fall in synergy with the Youth Art Show gallery exhibition dates. X. ADJOUNRNMENT Chair Luster adjourned the meeting at 7:10 p.m.
