RESOLUTION CONSENTING TO THE FORMATION OF
THE SAN MATEO COUNTY TOURISM BUSINESS
IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT
Resolved, by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that:
WHEREAS, Section 36521.5 of the California Streets and Highways Code authorizes
this City to consent to the formation of a Business Improvement District; and
WHEREAS, it is proposed that this city and other cities in San Mateo County and the
County of San Mateo form one Business Improvement District for the purpose of collecting
assessments from commercial lodging facilities (hotels, motels, etc.); and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the Streets and Highways Code Sections 36500 and following,
the City of Burlingame will hold necessary hearings, provide required notices, and receive
testimony and protests; and
WHEREAS this City has reviewed the proposed ordinance to establish the San Mateo
County Tourism Business Improvement District ("District"), including but not limited to the
proposed district boundaries, assessments, and purposes for the District,
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED and ORDERED that:
1. This City hereby consents to the formation of the San Mateo County Tourism
Business Improvement District for hotels and to the inclusion of area within the City in the
District and authorizes the City of. Burlingame to take necessary steps and actions to formalize
the formation of the District.
2. It is understood that during the District formation process, the District boundaries
may be reduced from those shown in the proposed ordinance to establish the District and/or that
the assessments, activities, programs, and services may be reduced, but that nevertheless this
consent shall remain valid.
3. This City will collect assessments imposed under the terms of the District for
hotels within its borders. The Finance Director is hereby authorized to transmit said assessments
to City of Burlingame.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the
City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a Regular meeting held on the 13th day
of December , 2000 by the following vote:

Action taken at 1/24/01 City Council Meeting - Append Resolution No. 156-2000
Motion-Matsumoto/Second-Gonzalez: To amend Resolution No. 156-2000, requesting that the City
of Burlingame consider including South San Francisco in the Business Improvement District, but
holding services and assessments until January 1, 2002. Thereby hotels will not pay assessments for
2001 and will not receive services from the BID for the year 2001. If this request can not be
honored by the City of Burlingame, the Council will amend Resolution No. 156-2000 by requesting
the City of Burlingame withdraw South San Francisco from the current Business Improvement
District agreement and reconsider it for inclusion in the January 1, 2002 agreement. Approved by
voice vote. Absent: Councilman Penna and Mayor Pro Tem Mullin.
