HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 02-2009RESOLUTION NO. 02-2009 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE PENINSULA PARTNERSHIP LEADERSHIP COUNCIL BILL OF RIGHTS FOR THE CHILDREN AND YOUTH OF SAN MATEO COUNTY WHEREAS, the Peninsula Partnership Leadership Council, which is made up of leaders from multiple disciplines throughout San Mateo County, has a mission to formulate policies that effectively address the needs and foster the healthy development of children, youth and families in San Mateo County; and WHEREAS, the Peninsula Partnership Leadership Council believes that all children and youth have rights to live in a just, moral, and supportive society; all children and youth have the same rights, regardless of their culture, race, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or disability; and all children and youth have the right to a better world than the one they inherited; and WHEREAS, the Peninsula Partnership Leadership Council has drafted the Peninsula Partnership Leadership Council Bill of Rights for the Children and Youth of San Mateo County to draw the attention of all County anal local agencies, parents, guardians, and private enterprises throughout the county and to provide them guidance in their decision making in order to foster the needs and healthy development of all children, youth, and families in the County; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of South San Francisco desires that every child and youth should ha-~e the opportunities set forth in the Peninsula Partnership Leadership Council Bill of Rights for the Children and Youth of San Mateo County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the City Council hereby adopts the Peninsula Partnership Leadership Council Bill of Rights for the Children and Youth of San Mateo County (Attachment A) as a guideline for all City agencies, parents, guardians, communities, and private enterprises. * ~ I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 14th day of January, 2009 by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Pedro Gonzalez, Richard A. Garbarino, and Kevin Mullin, Vice Mayor Mark Addiego and Mayor Karyl Matsumoto NOES: None ABSTAIN: None ABSENT: No ATTEST: `' City Clerk Attachment A: Peninsula Partnership Leadership Council Bill of Rights for the Children and Youth of San Mateo County Be it Resolved, we resolve to invest in all children and youth sa that: • They have a healthy mind, body, and spirit that enable them to maximize their potential. • They develop a healthy attachment to a parent, guardian, or caregiver and an ongoing relationship with a caring and supportive adult. Their essential needs are met-nutritious food, shelter, clothing, health care, and accessible transportation. • They have a safe and healthy environment, including homes, schools, neighborhoods, and communities. • They have access to a 21~tcentury education that promotes success 'rn life, in future careers and a love of life-tang learning. • They have training in life-skills that will prepare them to live independently, be self- suff'rcient, and contribute to their community. • They have employment opportunities with protections from unfair labor practices. They have freedom from mistreatment, abuse and neglect. • They have a voice in matters that affect there. • They have a sense of hope for their future.
