WHEREAS, Section 17958 of the Health & Safety Code requires the adoption by the City
of South San Francisco of regulations imposing the requirements of certain uniform industry codes
as specified in Health & Safety Code § 17922; and
WHEREAS, Health & Safety Code §17958.5 permits a city to make such changes or
modifications to the uniform codes as deemed reasonable because of local climatic, geological, or
topographical conditions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that pursuant to the requirements of Health & Safety Code §17958.7, the City Council
finds and determines there is a need to adopt the following changes or modifications to the California
Electrical Code 1998 Edition, (Municipal Code Chapter 15.20) by reason of local conditions:
1. Climatic, Geological, and Topographical Changes.
It is appropriate, as reflected in amendments to Nonmetallic-Sheathed Cable

to limit the use of Type NM and type NMC cables to certain residential
structures and not permit such cables in industrial and commercial buildings.
This revision is necessitated by the increased earthquake risk caused by the
City's proximity to the San Andreas Fault.

resolution, together with the ordinance making the changes or modifications to the California
Electrical Code, 1998 Edition, to be filed with the State Department of Housing and Community
