STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION SETTING A HEARING ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1998,
AT 07:30 P.M., AT 33 ARROYO DRIVE, SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO TO
CONSIDER THE PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION TO
MODIFY USE PERMIT 88-342/MOD 3 ALLOWING INDOOR
ENTERTAINMENT AT 3963 CALLAN BOULEVARD, SHANGRI-LA
RESTAURANT
VVHERI:'~/XS, tile Planning Commission approved Usc Permit Modilicafion 88-342/MOD 3 on
March 19, 1998 allowing entertainment at the Shangri-La Restaurant, situated at 3963 Callan
Boulevard, Soufll San Francisco; and
VVHEREAS, stall' recommended that the Planning Commission modil'y l Jsc Permit 88-
342/MOD 3 duc to violations of tim conditions; and,
VVHEREAS, on September 17, 1998, fl~c Planning Commission conducted a duly noticed
evidenfiary hearing on thc recommended moditicafion at which time the permit holder and any person
interested iii file matter was given a lull opportunity to 1lc heard and to present evidence; and,
WHERF~kS, tile Planning Commission reviewed and considered the stall' report and all ~vrittcn
and oral evidence presented to the Planning Commission itl support ot' and in opposition ~o stall's
recommendation to modity Use Permit Moditicafion 88-34,2/MOD 3; and
WHEREAS, file Planning Commission o1' tile City o1' South San Francisco lbund that thc
permit holder violated thc conditions ot' approval as [bllows:

On at least three separate occasions ci~tcrtainmcnt events were conducted at tile
Shangri-La Restaurant and hosted hy radio station KMEL, a violation
condition o1' approval 5 (al; and
2).
On at least two occasions wheu file l'acility was utilized tbr dancing, thc permit
holder t'ailed to have properly register securily guards, a violation of condition
ot' approval 3 (b); and
WHEREAS, fl~e Plmming Commissiou by a vote ot' 5-2 recommended that tile City Council set
a date to modity file Usc Permit Moditicafion 88-34.2/MOD 3 to add file tbllowiug conditions ot'

The Soutil San Fraucisco Policc Dcparmmnt shall be nofit}ed ot' cvcry

minimum of fllirty (30) calendar days iu advance ot' file planned event. Thc
applicant shall submit to the Police Chiet' South San Francisco Police
Department form SSFPD-SD-02-954 tbr each entertainment event. All
entertainment events shall be sub. jeer to tim review and approval by fl~e City's
Chief o1' Police.

Entertainment events shall not be couducmd at the Shangri-La Restaurant until
such time as the City Council aces on tim recommended modifications.

Thc Usc Permit as modilied shall be subject to a review by the Planning
Commission for compliance wifl~ all of its terms and conditions. Thc review
shall occur on or about April 15, 1999, approximately six monfl~s fi'om tim date
of adoption of the resolution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED fl~at the City Couucil of tim City of
South San Fraucisco, fl~at a hearing to consider the Planuing Commissiou recommendation to modily
Use Permit UP 88-342/MOD 3 shall be held at 7:30 P.M. on Tuesday November 10, 1998, at 33
Arroyo Drive, Soufl~ San Francisco, Calilbrnia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by tim City Council, thc City Clerk is instructed to cause
notice of this hearing to be published as required by thc South San Francisco Muificipal Codc Section
20.88.030 Notice Type B and C pursuant to tim uoficc iu substautially thc form attached #1 hereto.
