Representatives from the California High Speed Rail Authority will be making a public
presentation on Tuesday, June 15t" at 7 PM at the South San Francisco Council
Chambers. The presentation will focus on the recently published Preliminary Alternative
Analysis for the San Francisco to San Jose portion.
The Alternative Analysis reconfirms that afour-track, grade separated, shared Caltrain and
high-speed train system is feasible and is the recommended alternative on the Peninsula.
The shared-track would allow high-speed trains to operate at speeds up to 125 mph and
Caltrain to operate at up to 110 mph.
The impact to South San Francisco includes a grade separation at South Linden Avenue
as was previously proposed for Caltrain. Furthermore, additional tracks necessary for the
high-speed trains will impact the length and access points for the new proposed South San
Francisco Station's undercrossing as was previously anticipated.
According to the High Speed Rail representative, a "soft date" was recently announced as
June 30, 2010 to receive comments on the Alternative Analysis Report. However, they will
consider comments received after this date as well. It is expected that the Alternative
Analysis will be finalized by fall 2010 and the Preliminary Environmental Impact Report
which includes the preferred alternative will be published by the end of 2010 or early 2011.
