HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 86-1998RESOLUTION NO. 86-98 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO REFRAIN FROM USING POLLUTING GARDEN AND UTILITY EQUIPMENT ON SPARE THE AIR DAYS AND THAT THE CITY DEPARTMENTS NOT PURCHASE POLLUTING GARDEN AND UTILITY EQUIPMENT WHEREAS, there are days in which the Bay Area Air Quality Management District notifies the public of unhealthy levels of air pollution and requests that the public refrain from engaging in polluting activities; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it is in the best interest of the public that on "Spare the Air Days" that City personnel and contractors working for the City make reasonable efforts from engaging in polluting activities. NOW, THEREFORE, The City Council does hereby resolve as follows: (1) Except as otherwise provided, the City of South San Francisco should make reasonable efforts to use non-polluting garden and utility equipment on "Spare the Air Days". (2) The City should not procure polluting garden and utility equipment, unless the City determines that no comparable clean fuel alternatives exists or the incremental cost between the polluting garden and utility equipment and the clean fuel alternative would result in as excessive additional expense to the City. For the purposes of this resolution, "polluting garden and utility equipment" means any two stroke gasoline powered equipment under 25 horsepower, such as, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, trimmers, and weed whackers. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a re§u 1 ar meeting held on the 8th day of_ Crul¥ , 1998 by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers James L.
