CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION APPROVING AN AGREEMENT
BETWEEN THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO
AND AFSCME, LOCAL 1569, FOR THE PERIOD
JUl.Y l, 1997 THROUGH JUNF. 30, 2000
WHEREAS, the representatives of the City and AFSCME, Local 1569 have reached agreement on
those wages and conditions of employment which are to be in effect during the period of July 1, 1997
through June 30, 2000; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends that the Agreement be approved by the City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco
that:
(1) It hereby approves the Agreement between the City of South San Francisco and
AFSCME, Local 1569, attached hereto as Exhibits "A" and "B', which set forth those wages and
conditions of employment to be effect during the period of July 1, 1997 through June 30, 2000;
(2) The City Manager is directed to prepare a revised Memorandum of
Understanding Booklet that will be subject to review and approval as to form by the City
Attorney.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City
Council of the City of South San Francisco at a re[lul ar meeting held on the 8th day of_

1. Salaries for the period July 1, 1997 through June 30, 2000 shall be as set forth in Exhibit A.

Increase safety shoe allowance from $100 to $150.
Increase tool replacement allowance from $120 to $240.
Reduce Communications Dispatchers pay steps from eleven to five.
3.5% additional compensation for pesticide spray certification (one empl~oyee).
Provide pro-rated longevity pay for part-time regular employees.
Uniform Policy
Require a Class B drivers license, for certain classifications, for all employees hired after
August 1, 1996.
Increase comp-time accumulation hours from sixty to seventy, and decrease request time
form five to three days.
Decrease vacation request time from five to three days.
Salary schedule numbers will be rounded to two numbers (hundredth) past the decimal.
Incorporate all previously agreed upon language in the MOU into the new agreement.
Modify language regarding "Break time" to include travel time.
If, at a future date, the City approves the position of"grounds person" the City agrees to meet
with the Union.
Retired part-time regular and grant funded employees will be provided, on a pro-rated basis,
health, dental, and vision insurance in the same manner provided to employees who retired
from full-time positions.
$128 weekly stand-by pay will be provided for two employees.
Amend the current Educational Incentive provision to reflect the current interpretation which
is to allow any accredited educational course be applied toward the incentive program and
to require the employee to notify the department when they become eligible to receive an
educational incentive adjustment. In addition, an AA degree or higher would qualify for the
incentive.
Clarify the current layoff progression to make it clear that, by classification, full time regular
employees are the last to be laid-off.
