A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE OF A ONE-
YEAR $25,000 FELLOWSHIP AWARD TO PROJECT READ
DIRECTOR LESLIE SHELTON FROM THE NATIONAL
INSTITUTE FOR LITERACY FOR CONTINUED RESEARCH,
DEVELOPMENT AND DISSEMINATION OF THE "HONORING
DIVERSITY" TEACHING MODEL AND RELATED
ACTIVITIES
WHEREAS,ithe National Institute for Literacy has announced the
selection of ifive Literacy Fellowship Award recipients to conduct
special projects in the field of adult literacy during the 1995/96
federal fiscail year; and
WHEREAS, Leslie Shelton has been selected as one of three
literacy professionals to receive such fellowship award; and
WHEREAS,~ Leslie Shelton will continue as Director of Project
Read and devote half her time to the fellowship project;
WHEREAS,i the funds received for this project will pay for
$20,000 of salary costs, $4,000 for travel to Washington, D.C. and
two other states, and $1,000 for telephone and supplies,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of South San Francisco, California, as follows:
1. The !City Manager is hereby authorized to accept a one-
year, $25,000 Fellowship Award to Project Read Director Leslie
Shelton from the National Institute for Literacy for continued
research, development and dissemination of the "Honoring Diversity"
teaching model and related activities.
2. TheiCity Manager is further authorized to execute any and
all documents necessary to assure that the City obtains and
appropriately expends such funds, and hereby amends 1995-1996
Capital ImproVement Budget No. 96-3.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly
introduced and adopted by the City Council of the city of South San
Francisco at la regular meeting held on the 8th day of
November , 1995 by the following vote:
