CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL
OF A GRANT APPLICATION FOR FAMILIES FOR
LITERACY FUNDS FOR 1996/97 FISCAL YEAR
FOR THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO LIBRARY
WHEREAS, the federal Library Services and Construction Act
provides funds for improving services to The Families for Literacy
Program, a special service of Project Read, which is designed to
introduce adult learners and their children to the value and joy of
reading as a family; and
WHEREAS, the city of South San Francisco operates libraries
which may qualify for such grant funds; and
WHEREAS, the funds, if awarded, would be utilized to purchase
materials and cover all costs for Project Read which would
encourage parents and their children to improve their reading
skills.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of South San Francisco, California, as follows:
1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an
application to the California State Library for Families for
Literacy funds in the amount of $18,500.
2. The City Manager is further authorized to execute any and
all documents necessary to assure that the City obtains and
appropriately expends such funds.
3. If a grant is awarded, an amendment to the Fiscal Year
1996-1997 Operating Budget is authorized to reflect the receipt of
such funds.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly
introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 22nd day of
May , 1996 by the following vote:

Councilmembers Joseph A. Fernekes, Euqene R. Mullin. John R.
Penna, Robert Yee and Mayor Jack Drago
