CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL
OF A GRANT APPLICATION FOR LITERACY
PLANNING FOR THE LIBRARY'S PROJECT READ
PROGRAM AN APPROVING BUDGET AMENDMENT
NO. 1 TO THE 1995-1996 OPERATING BUDGET
WHEREAS, the National Institute for Literacy Planning provides
funds in the amount of $50,000 for Library Literacy Programs such
as Project Read Program, which is designed to introduce adult
learners and their children to the value and joy of reading as a
family; and
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco operates libraries
which may qualify for such grant funds; and
WHEREAS, $12,500 of the grant money would be used to offset
the current Project Read Budget and
WHEREAS, $37,500, amended to the 1995-1996 budget, would cover
the costs of the project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of South San Francisco, California, as follows:
1. Assuming the grant is awarded, the City Manager is hereby
authorized to submit an application to the National Institute for
Literacy for a Literacy Planning Project for the Library's Project
Read Program in the amount of $50,000.
2. Assuming the grant is awarded, the City Manager is further
authorized to execute any and all documents necessary to assure
that the City obtains and appropriately expends such funds.
3. The amount of $37,500 is appropriated to the Library
Operating Budget to cover costs of the project.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly
introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco at a requ]ar meeting held on the 13th day of
September , 1995 by the following vote:

Councilmembers Jack Drago, Joseph A. Fernekes, Roberta Cerri
Teglia and Mayor Robert Yee
