CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE
OF $55,000 FROM THE STATE LITERACY
RESOURCE CENTER FOR PROJECT READ TO
COORDINATE A STATEWIDE NEW READER
CONFERENCE IN MARCH. 1996
WHEREAS, Project Read has been invited to accept a contract
from the State Literacy Resource Center to assist in coordination
of a statewide conference of adult learners from library literacy
programs, adult schools, corrections, community colleges and
community based organizations; and
WHEREAS, the conference for one hundred (100) adult learners
will be held at the Westin Hotel in Burlingame on March 8, 9 and
10, 1996; and
WHEREAS, Project Read, recognized as a leader in new reader
leadership development, was selected to help coordinate the
conference; and
WHEREAS, funds in the amount of $55,000, currently in the
State Literacy Resource Center budget, will be given as a grant to
the South San Francisco Library which grant would augment the
existing Project Read budget for 1995-1996; and
WHEREAS, funds for this project will pay for one hundred
eighty (180) hours of coordination time, supplies, conference site
costs, travel for participants and indirect fees for the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of South San Francisco, California, as follows:
1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to accept the amount
of $55,000 from the State Literacy Resource Center for Project Read
to coordinate a Statewide New Reader Conference in March, 1996.
2. The City Manager is further authorized to execute any and
all documents necessary to assure that the City obtains and
appropriately expends such funds.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly
introduced and adopted by the City Council of the city of South San
Francisco at a requ]ar meeting held on the 27th day of
September , 1995 by the following vote:
