CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION INVITING THE CITY OF KISHIWADA,
JAPAN TO BECOME A SISTER CITY OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO
WHEREAS, the citizens of South San Francisco wish to promote friendship
and understanding among the many ethnic groups within its jurisdiction; and
WHEREAS, South San Francisco counts many Japanese enterprises as part
of its business community and there is great interest in Japan and the
other countries of the Pacific Rim; and
WHEREAS, Kishiwada is a city of 180,000 people located 15 miles south
of Osaka and borders the port of Hannan on Osaka Bay; and
WHEREAS, Kishiwada will soon be experiencing tremendous growth as the
gateway to the new Kansai International Airport now under construction
offshore; and
WHEREAS, these and other similarities between the two cities make a
mutually sJpportive relationship advantageous to both and a cultural and
business exchange under a Sister City relationship is a productive way to
accomplish such support; and
WHEREAS, the essence of the Sister City program is to further global
understanding and foster civic progress through the interchange of ideas
and experience.
NOW, TqEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
South San :ranci$co hereby invites the City of Kishiwada, Japan to become
a Sister City and if Kishiwada accepts this invitation the relationship
shall commence.
I here)y certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced
and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a
regular meeting held on the 13th day of June , 1990 by the
following ~ote:
