CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE INCLUSION OF POLICE
OFFICERS ON THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF
COI~tERCE LIST OF CURRENTLY ESSENTIAL ACTIVITIES
AND THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF LABOR LIST
OF CURRENTLY CRITICAL OCCUPATIONS
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco, in common
with other municipalities in the State of California, is
experiencing a population growth which places a severe
burden upon its Police Department in connection with ob-
taining qualified, trained young personnel; and
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco has been en-
gaging in a continuous recruitment program but has been un-
able to obtain the necessary personnel to meet its need, the
same as other municipalities in the State of California, in
the area of police protection; and
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco having ex-
perienced, and is experiencing, a problem in connection with
the fact that Police Officers being trained by the City are
inducted into the military ' ·
servxce, and
WHEREAS, the City Of South San Francisco acknowledges
the fact that the military service is essential for external
security and that local law enforcement agencies are neces-
sary for the internal security of the community; and
WHEREAS, the Selective Service Boards use the United
States Department of Commerce List of Currently Essential
Activities and the United States Department of Labor List
of Currently Critical Occupations as guides to classifying
individual .registrants'for the military sez-Tice;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Coun-
cil of the City of South San Francisco does hereby urgent-
ly request the Honorable Willard Wirtz, Secretary ~f Labor,
to cause to be placed on the Critical Occupations List of
the Department of Labor the classification of Police Offic-
er; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of South San Francisco urgently requests the Honorable
Alexander Trowbridge, Acting-Secretary of Commerce, to cause
to be placed on the Currently Essential Activities List of
the Department of Commerce the classification of Police
Officer.
