WHEREAS, the Western Greyhound Lines has filed an applica- tion, No. 49658 with the California Public Utilities Commission, petitioning for fare increases and the elimination of commuta- tion rates in the Bay Area, and more particularly, in the County of San Mateo; and WHEREAS, the San Mateo Council of Mayors has reviewed the application and determined that: (a) The elimination of the commutation rates as proposed by Western Greyhound Lines will increase the cost per ride to those users who have, in the past, taken advantage of said commutation rates, by an average of from 40% to 140%. (b) The increase in commutation costs by the elimination of commutation rates as aforesaid will result in an inordinate and unconscionable fare increase to the residents in San Mateo County. (c) The elimination of commutation rates and the increase in fares will cause more commuters to use other means of transportation to wit: Their automobiles; thus, further adding to and increasing the congestion and the wear and tear on the streets and highways in the County of San Mateo and the State Highways in said County. The increase in traffic upon the streets of said County will increase the number of automobile accidents, and the additional wear and tear on the public streets will all be of a financial detriment and a personal hardship to the County of San Mateo and its residents. (d) Many students use the Western Greyhound Lines facilities for the purpose of transportation to and from schools and the elimination of commutation rates and the failure to create student rates will cause extreme financial hardships to said students; and WHEREAS, on review of the application and findings of the Council of Mayors, the City of South San Francisco has determined that the position of the Council of Mayors is worthy of support; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO AS FOLLOWS: 1.
