HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 4992-1968 RESOLUTION NO. 4992 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCZSCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR IMME£IATE COUNTY POLICY' AND ACTION REGARDING TfiE SAN BRUNO MOUNTAIN PARK. WHE~S, there are no county or regional parks located in the northernmost portion of San Mateo County; and WHE~S, the most rapid rate of population increase in San Marco County has occurred in the nmrth county area, and growth continues at a rapid rate, and WHEREAS, these population pressures have created a critical lack of needed large-scale outdoor recreation facil- ities, and WHEREAS, San Bruno Mountain is the only large, centrally- located tract of undeveloped land left in this area which can accommodate recreation facilities of the needed scale and variety, and WHEREAS, San Bruno Mountain still offers an excellent opportunity for acquisition and development as a regional park site, and WHE~S, unless immediate action is taken, the oppor- tunity for a regional recreational development on San Bruno Mountain will be lost forever, and WHEREAS, the "Parks and Open Space Report", prepared by the Regional Planning Committee and widely endorsed in all parts of the county, proposes a regional park on the saddle area of San Bruno Mountain, and WHEREAS, the RPC report accords first priority to park land acquisition on San Bruno Mountain; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED (1) That the Board of Supervisors should freeze all park acquisition funds available to the county and not now - 1- firmly committed until the RPC Park and Open Space recommendations, now showing San Bruno Mountain in the top priority position for acquisition, is considered. and approved by the Board. (2) That no funds be allocated for the development of any county park area, until acquisition of the San Bruno Mountain project is assured. (3) That the park area proposed in the present RPC recommen- dations for San Bruno Mountain, be enlarged up to an additional fifty percent. (4) That the proposed San Bruno Mountain Park project be broken down into separate acquisizion units, showing priorities, so that a phased acquisition program can be commenced immediately and cont"_nued until complete acquisition funds are provided, so to thwart development of the proposed Park lands. (See attached Exhibit A) (5) That the San Bruno Mountain project be developed to incorporate those uses and activities proposed in the "RPC Parks and Open Space Report and other appropriate regional recreation activities. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular held on the 18th day of November the following vote: AYES, COUNCILMEN NOES, ABSENT, meeting , 19 68 , by Frank J.
