The positTon would be occupied only as schedu ed to perform vacuuming, brushing, bleaching, and chemical analysis of pool water. Because of the number of hours per day that we are operating the swlm pool we are finding It dill'cult to keep the pool clean and perform basic maintenance duties related to the pool mechanics, lge have tried several methods, the ~est of which Is to employ a life guard knowledgeable In the pool nechanlcs to begln ~vorklng at 6:00 a.m. (the same time the building custodian starts). Between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. the pool Is vacuumed and brushed, pool water Is chemically tested and recorded, and the pool decks bleached end dlslnfected. These Items are no: done dally but as scheduled In advance by the Pool Manager. De)ending on prior pool use, the Job ~vould be performed on tyro to five days per week. As thls job Is more demanding than that of life guard, I request creation of this new pay rate fo' malntenance equal to that of s~vln~nlng Instructor. The posltl.~n should have almost no effect on the total operatlng costs of the pool as a result of better efficiency In belng ready for the public. I will have difficulty keeping the position filled wlth a knc~vledgeable person If a lesser pay rate Is adopted. Robert L.
