HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 5521-1971RESOLUTION NO. 5521 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE POLICY FOR ANNUAL ROTATION OF MAYOR AND MAYOR PRO TEM. BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the following sets forth the provisions for the terms of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tern in the City of South San Francisco: I. DEFINITION. A TERM OF OFFICE'AS MAYOR; MAYOR PRO TEM. A Mayor and Mayor Pro Tern term of office, for purposes of this ResOlution shall be either of the following: A. Even-numbered years. In even-numbered years the respective terms of office shall commence on the Tuesday succeeding the general Municipal Election, after the Council has met and chosen one of its members as Mayor and one of its members as Mayor Pro Tern, and shall continue through to the time on the date of the first regular Council meeting in April of the suc- ceeding year when the Council meets and chooses one of its members as Mayor and one of its members as Mayor Pro Tern. B. Odd-numbered years. In odd-numbered years the respec- tive terms of office shall commence on the date of the first regular Council meeting in April after the Council has met and chosen one of its members as Mayor and one of its members as Mayor Pro Tern, and shall continue through to the time on the Tuesday succeeding the general Municipal Election on the next year when the Council meets and chooses one of its members as Mayor and one of its members as Mayor Pro Tern. - 1 - '~' i lIT" i I II. III. IV. LIMITATION OF TERM - MAYOR. A Councilman shall serve no more than one term as Mayor in a four-year consecutive period and shall serve no more than four terms as Mayor in a sixteen-year con- secutive period. ANNUAL CHANGE. Subject to the limitations set forth in Paragraph II, the Council shall choose a Mayor and Mayor Pro Tern annually for the terms set forth in Paragraph I, with the proviso that the Mayor Pro Tam shall succeed to the office of Mayor in the term immediately following his term as Mayor Pro Tern, if said Mayor Pro Tern then is a member of the City Council and he is the senior Council- man who has not served a term as Mayor. SENIOR COUNCILMAN PREFERENCE. Subject to the limitations set forth in Paragraphs II and III, it shall be the policy of the Council to choose as Mayor the senior Councilman. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and rejected by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 5th day of ADri~ , 19 71· , by the following vote: AYES, COUNCILMEN P.
