CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF $35,000
IN DONATIONS AND GRANT FUNDING TO SUPPORT
PROJECT READ SERVICES AND AMENDING THE LIBRARY
DEPARTMENT'S 2011 -2012 OPERATING BUDGET
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ( "City ") Library Department established Project
Read to assist adults and their families in reaching literacy goals; and
WHEREAS, the United Way of the Bay Area awarded a grant to the City in the amount of
$5,000 to fund Project Read's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programming; and
WHEREAS, donations from residents, businesses, and local organizations have been
collected through fundraising efforts in the amount of $30,000 to support Project Read's Learning
Wheels programming; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of the grant funding in the amount of $5,000
from the United Way of the Bay Area and $30,000 in donations to support the services by Project
Read; and
WHEREAS, the foregoing grant funds will be used to amend this year's operating budget of
the Library Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that the City Council hereby accepts $5,000 in grant funding from the United Way of the
Bay Area and $30,000 in donations and amends the Library Department's 2011 -2012 Operating
Budget in order to reflect an increase of $35,000.

I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the
City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 8 day of February,
2012 by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Mark Addiego, Karyl Matsumoto, and Kevin Mullin,
Vice Mayor Pedro Gonzalez and Mayor Richard A. Garbarino
