HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 5812-1972RESOLUTION NO. 5812 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION IN MEMORY OF ALWIN R. BRAUNS. WHEREAS, Alwin R. Brauns completed twenty-eight years of service as Assistant Fire Chief of the City of South San Francisco and passed away April 5, 19 72, and WHEREAS, he was instrumental in improving the per- formance of the Fire Department in all phases of its opera- tions, in developing one of the finest Civil Defense organi- zations in San Mateo County, in originating this City's Emer- gency Operating Center, and in requiring advanced first-aid training and radiological monitoring of its Fire Department personnel, and WHEREAS, he was indefatigable in his efforts to reach perfection, to wit: graduation from Jefferson High School in 1927; attendance at the College of San Mateo for eighteen months thereafter; accomplished printer, machinist and journey- man tool and die maker during the difficult depression years; assumption of the City's first Assistant Fire Chief's position after only six months of fire-fighting duty with the Depart- ment in 1944; completion of a myriad of special fire-fighting courses given by University of California, College of San Mateo and Los Angeles Department; devoted husband and father to his wife, Irene, and daughters, Janet and Gayle, and WHEREAS, the level of his dedication and performance to the Fire Department was and continues to be an inspiration to fellow City employees; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that this Council does commend and honor the late Alwin R. Brauns for his constructive achievement and does record this Resolution in the official records of the City of South San Francisco· The members of this Council express their deepest personal appreciation to the members of his family for his contribution to this city.
