CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING WILLIAM R. LAWSON OF MENLO PARK.
WHEREAS, William R. Lawson has completed twenty years of
public service with the City of Menlo Park and County of San
Mateo and has chosen to retire from a distinguished career in
public service in the year 1972, and
WHEREAS, he deftly blended his educational .skills acquired
at the University of California at Berkeley with a keen business
sense to become a successful businessman for many years, and
WHEREAS, these successful years came to their true fruition
in the assumption of positions of far-reaching responsibility
with several public entities including: City Councilman of
Menlo Park from 1952 to 1972; Mayor of that entity for twelve
years; Chairman of the West Bay Rapid Transit from 1964 to
1969; Local Agency Formation Commission member from 1963 to
1972; member of the San Mateo County Council of Mayors from
1967 to 1968; and appointive member of the Metropolitan Trans-
portation Commission of Associated Bay Area Governments, and
WHEREAS, his tenure of public service has been earmarked
by his outspokenness, tenacious objectivity, fistic commitment
to morality, flexibility, sincerity, and honesty;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of South San Francisco that this Council does commend
and honor William R. Lawson for his devoted efforts to infuse
public life with a higher level professional service.
