CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING CLASSIFICATION
CHANGES AND INSTRUCTING THE PERSONNEL
BOARD REGARDING AN OPEN EXAMINATION
FOR CHIEF OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South
San Francisco that:
1. In accordance with Rule 4 of the Personnel Rules and
Regulations, the City Council makes the following modification:
The City Council hereby modifies the experience and education
provisions of the Fire Chief classification plan to read as
fol lows:
EXPERIENCE:
(1) Applicants from fire departments of cities
or agencies other than City of South San Francisco
shall hold the rank of Battalion Chief or higher and
have not less than eight (8) years of experience in
fire-fighting and prevention work, including at least
three (3) years in a responsible supervisory capacity.
(2) Applicants from the Fire Department of the
City of South San Francisco shall hold the rank of
Captain or higher and have at least eight (8) years
of experience in fire-fighting and prevention work,
including at least three (3)' years in a responsible
supervisory capacity.
EDUCATION:
Graduation from college or completion of a junior
college curriculum in fire science is preferred.
Education equivalent to graduation from high school
is qualifying.
2. In the opinion of the appointing power, the Chief of
the Fire Department vacancy will be filled better by an open,
competitive examination instead of a closed promotional exam-
ination, and, therefore, pursuant to Personnel Rules and Regu-
lations Section 13.02, the Council as appointing power instructs
the Personnel Board to call for applications for the vacancy
and arrange for an open, competitive examination and for the
preparation and certification of an eligible list.
3. The City Manager be and he is hereby authorized to
meet and confer with the Personnel Board for the purpose of
implementing the aforegoing.
