CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING JOHN MARCHI,
FIRE CHIEF.
WHEREAS, John A. Marchi has completed twenty-eight
years of service with the South San Francisco Fire Department
and now retires in the capacity of Fire Chief, and
WHEREAS, John A. Marchi was born in New York City in
1907 and raised in San Francisco; achieved experience in the
loan company business and at one time during this career made
a flying tackle to apprehend an armed ex-convict who had just
held up his loan office, and
WHEREAS, he has been instrumental in the improvement
of water mains, hydrant distribution, fire alarm systems, and
continuously brought modern methods and equipment to the Fire
Department, and
WHEREAS, this City now enjoys a Class 3A fire insurance
rating and Fire Department Class 2 rating, and
WHEREAS, John has maintained active and constructive
participation in such associations as the International Associa-
tion of Fire Chiefs, Western Association; California State
Association Peninsula; San Mateo County Association of Fire
Chiefs; Elks Club; Y.M.I.; and South San Francisco Boys' Club
(group Supervisor);
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of South San Francisco that this Council does commend
and honor John A. Marchi for the many years of devoted fire
service he has contributed to the City of South San Francisco.
