HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 5870-1972RESOLUTION NO. 5870 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO EMPLOYEE CLASSIFI'CATION PLAN BY ADDING T}IE CLASSES OF STENOGRAPHER CLERK (POLICE) AND ENGINEERING DRAFTSMAN · WHEREAS, Personnel Ordinance 449, Section. 3 (d) and Section 7, and Personnel Rules and Regulations, Section 4.02 empower the City Council to amend the Employee Classification Plan, and WHEREAS, the City Manager, as ex officio' Personnel Officer has proposed new classes entitled Stenographer Clerk (Police) (classified) and Engineering Draftsman (unclassified), said specifications embodied in attached exhibits, marked Exhibit "A" and "B"; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that new class specifications for the above-described classes be adopted as an amendment to the Employee Classification Plan. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a re§u~ar meeting held on the ~9th day of June , 19 72, by the following vote: AYES, COUNCILMEN I! STENOGRAPHER CLERK (POLICE) DEFINITION Under general supervision, to do clerical work on a shift basis which includes taking shorthand notes from dictation and to transcribe them accurately; to do general typing and clerical work of average difficulty; and to do related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Incumbents whose positions are assigned to this class work under general supervision, and within a framework of established procedure are expected to perform a wide variety of typing and general clerical duties with only occasion- al instruction or assistance, Work is normally reviewed only on comDletion and for overall results. Employees in this class may have frequent contact with the public, answering a variety of procedural questions or giving out information from established departmental records. Because Police service is required around-the-clock employees may be required to work evenings, niqhts t or weekends and may be called in for emergencies. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Take and transcribes dictation consisting of correspondence, memoranda, reports and other material; comDoses routine letters from marginal notes or verbal instructions; types reports, letters, documents, bills, vouchers, lists, schedules, notices, and statistical and financial data; checks and reviews a variety of data for completion and conformance with established regulations and procedures; does posting and makes entries in books of account or other records; maintains a variety of office files and card indexes; gives out informa- tion personally, over the counter, over the telephone, or bv letter in answer to inquiries; proofreads cody; receives and distributes mail; operates a variety of office appliances; _works day, swing, or graveyard shift and may be called in at irregular hours as the needs of the service reauire. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Modern office methods, equipment and procedures; English ,usage, spelling, grar~ar, punctuation, and vocabulary. and Ability to: · Take dictation at a rate of not less than 90 words a minute and transcribe it accurately; Perform assigned duties without close supervision; Type at .a speed of not less than '45 words a minute from clear, legible copy; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Experience: One year of experience in stenographic and clerical work. and · Education: Equivalent to coreD, letion of the twelfth grade, including courses in stenography and typina. City of South San Francisco -EXHIBIT "B"- june 1972 ENGINEERING DRAFTSMAN DEFINITION Under general supervision, to perform subprofessional engineering office work involving drafting; and to do related work as required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Assists in computing and 'recording field data; determining lines, angles, distances, elevations, and reduces field notes of readings and observations. Uses drafting instruments;' makes rough layouts, tracings, drawings, diagrams and maps for public works projects; performs the computing and drafting operations involved in checking and reducing field survey notes; lays out, draws, inks, traces, checks, and keeps maps u_p-to-date; researches records and files; checks maps, leads, descriptions, master plans, and improvement plans for compliance with designed criteria, special conditions, and City standards; assists professional engineering staff in conducting ' special studies; answers routine inquiries from the general public; assists with the inspection of public works construction projects to insure use of proper materials and compliance with standards and specifications. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION Knowledge of: Principles of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry; Nomenclature, symbols, methods, practices, techniques, and instruments used in drafting and surveying work. and Abiiity to: Interpret engineering maps, plans; Transpose drawings and diagrams, and prepare neat and accurate tracings; Make accurate engineering computations; Operate drafting instruments and equipment; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. and Engineering Draftsman - 2 Experience: Two years of subprofessional engineering or drafting experience. (College level engineering training may be substituted for this experience on a year-for-year basis. ) and Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, including or supplemented by courses in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and mechanical drawing.
