RESOLUTION NO. 5929
CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION OF OPPOSITION TO STATE OF
CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
REPORT ENTITLED, "1971 SECTION 258
REPORT AND CALIFORNIA FUNCTIONAL
CLASSIFICATION STUDY."
WHEREAS, the State of California Department of Public
Works in a recent report, commonly called the "256 Report",
has indicated its intent to retain jurisdiction over a mere
5,100 miles of state highways out of a total of 16,000 miles;
and,
WHEREAS, the execution of such a plan would force county
and local governments to maintain and upgrade existing state
highways within their locales; and,
WHEREAS, such an obligation would put an economic
stranglehold on such areas; and,
WHEREAS, this proposal is particularly disturbing to the
City of South San Francisco since Bay Shore Freeway (101)
appears to be the only state highway in the immediate Peninsula
portion of the North Bay Area to remain within the jurisdiction
of the State of California;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of South San Francisco that this Council does oppose the
implementation of the Department of Public Works "256 Report."
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was
regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the
rag.~r meeting held on
