CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ADOPTION OF THE 2010
UPDATE TO THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO LOCAL HAZARD
MITIGATION PLAN
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco ( "City ") staff recommends that the City Council
adopt a resolution authorizing the adoption of the 2010 Update to the South San Francisco Local
Hazard Mitigation Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Area region is subject to various earthquake related hazards such as
ground shaking, liquefaction, landslides, fault surface rupture and tsunamis; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Area is subject to various weather related hazards including wildfires,
flood, and landslides; and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes that disasters do not recognize city, county, or special
district boundaries; and
WHEREAS, the City seeks to maintain and enhance both a disaster resistant City of South
San Francisco and region by reducing potential loss of life, property damage, and environmental
degradation from natural disasters, while accelerating economic recovery from those disasters; and
WHERAS, the City is committed to improving the disaster resistance of infrastructure,
health, housing, economy, government services, education, environment, and land use systems in the
City, as well as the Bay Area region as a whole; and
WHEREAS, the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 requires all cities, counties and special
districts to have adopted a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan in order to receive disaster mitigation
funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency ( "FEMA "); and
WHEREAS, the Association of Bay Area Governments ( "ABAG ") has approved and adopted
the ABAG report titled, "Local Hazard Mitigation Plan Taming Natural Disasters" as the multi -
jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan for the San Francisco Bay Area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco hereby adopts, the multi - jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan as its Local Hazard
Mitigation Plan, attached hereto as Exhibit A.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco
hereby adopts the City of South San Francisco Annex, as part of its Local Hazard Mitigation Plan,
attached hereto as Exhibit B.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of South San Francisco commits to continuing
to take those actions identified in the multi jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan and the City
of South San Francisco Annex, as appropriate.

I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the
City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 14 day of March,
2012 by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Mark Addiego, Karyl Matsumoto, and Kevin Mullin,
Vice Mayor Pedro Gonzalez and Mayor Richard A. Garbarino
