CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE SOUTH SAN
FRANCISCO EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION
PLAN BY ADDING THE CLASS OF
TREATMENT PLANT MECHANIC-ELECTRICIAN.
WHEREAS, Personnel Ordinance 449, Secti~on 3(d) and
Section 7, and Personnel Rules and Regulations, Section 4.02,
empower the City Council to amend the Employee Classification
Plan, and
WHEREAS, the City Manager, as ex-officio Personnel
Officer, has proposed a new class entitled Treatment Plant
Mechanic-Electrician (classified)~ said specifications embodied
in Exhibit A attached hereto;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of South San Francisco that the new class specifications
for the above-described class be adopted as an amendment to
the Employee Classification Plan.

TREATMENT PLANT MECHANIC - ELECTRICIAN
.--~ DEFINITION
~ Under general supervision, to perform a' variety of skilled and semi-skilled
mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair work on Treatment Plant and
pumping station equipment and facilities, and do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Inspects Treatment Plant equipment and facilities to locate needed repairs and
maintenance; installs, services and maintains a variety of Treatment Plant
equipment, including pumps, pipelines, valves and other types of stationery
machinery and equipment; makes repairs to electrical equipment including rewiring
and replacing defective and worn parts; maintains and repairs motor control centers,
automatic control facilities, standby generators, signal alarms; may act as
Treatment Plant Operator when needed; performs a variety of ..other duties as assigned.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Methods, tools and equipment used in mechanical and electrical
maintenance and repair work;
Operation and maintenance of sewage treatment plant and related
facilities;
National Electric Code and OSHA regulations.
Abiiity to:
Detect and take appropriate action to correct mechanical and
·
electrical faults and failures;
Perform a wide variety of mechanical and electrical maintenance
work; '
Use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely;
Work from sketches and blueprints;
Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted
in the course of work; and
Experience: Three years of experience in maintenance and repair of a wide
variety of mechanical and electrical equipment; and
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twlefth grade.
