HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 6056-1973 RESOLUTION NO. 6056 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE PENINSULA HUMANE SOCIETY'S "FOOTPRINTS TO THE FUTURE" FUND AND DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF MAY 6 THROUGH 12, 1973, AS "BE KIND TO ANIMALS" WEEK. RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of South San Francis co that: WHEREAS, the Peninsula Humane Society has, since its founding in 1950, been serving the needs of domestic and wild animals in the County of San Mateo through the facilities at Coyote Point in San Mateo; and WHEREAS, the facilities have become inadequate to provide for the care and treatment of all the animals which daily are brought to the shelter for protection; and WHEREAS, the Peninsula Humane Society, using dog license revenues and without tax support from this City, provides enforcement of the animal control ordinances and uses the facilities of the Society at Coyote Point to house and treat the animals; and WHEREAS, the availability of the Society's shelter has relieved the taxpayers of this City of the burden of provid- ing animal shelters and has made available on a private, non- profit basis, a service otherwise to be supplied by government; and WHEREAS, the Peninsula Humane Society is undertaking a campaign known as "Footprints to the Future" to raise funds for the capital expansion of the Coyote Point facilities; and WHEREAS, public support of this endeavor will be of direct benefit to the citizens and taxpayers of this City; NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED THAT: 1. The Peninsula Humane Society's campaign, "Footprints to the Future: be, and it is hereby, endorsed by this Council. le 2. The Citizens of this City be, and they are hereby, urged to participate to whatever extent possible in the program to expand the shelter facilities at Coyote Point in order that the needs of the animals of this County, large and small, domestic and wild, may be met. 3. The Mayor be, and he is hereby, authorized to pro- claim the week of May 6 through 12, 1973, as "BE KIND TO ANIMALS WEEK" to highlight the services and facilities available to all our citizens through the work of the Peninsula Humane Society and its Coyote Point shelter.
