CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION URGING SUPPORT OF
LEGISLATION IDENTICAL TO THE
NATIONAL SCIENCE AND POLICY
PRIORITIES ACT OF 1972.
WHEREAS, the issues of energy resources, transportation,
health care, pollution, adequate housing, crime, and unemploy-
ment are increasingly important to our nation, and
WHEREAS, many of our California technical and scientific
work force remain unemployed, and are not being utilized in
the search for solutions to these pressing problems; and
WHEREAS, there is an urgent need for the National Science
Foundation to conduct research, education, and assistance
programs through Community Conversion Corporations to prepare
the nation for conversion from defense to civilian socially-
oriented research and development activities, and for other
related purposes, and
WHEREAS: the United States Senate has now approved legis-
lation which will bring federal funds and direction of our
national skilled work force together for the first time in
our history to cope with the problems outlined above, and
WHEREAS, this legislation was originally sponsored by
the California based Edict Foundation, and is strongly sup-
ported by labor and service organizations and individuals
throughout the country, and
WHEREAS, legislation identical to the National Science
Policy and Priorities Act of 1972 is now pending before the
United States House of Representatives and is expected to
receive floor action this year;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of South San Francisco that

1. Ail members of the California Congressional delega-
tion be urged to support this legislation and assist its
passage in every possible way, and
2. Copies of this resolution be transmitted to the
President of the United States and to each member of the
California Congressional delegation and to the Speaker of
the House of Representatives.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was
regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of
the City of South San Francisco at a re.qu~ar
