HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 6080-1973RESOLUTION NO. 6080 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN 'FRANCISCO URGING DELAY OF PHASING OUT OF EMPLOYEES AT HUNTERS POINT NAVAL STATION. WHEREAS, the Department of Defense has authorized the closing down of Hunters Point Naval Station, and WHEREAS, 1500 of the 5600 employees to be laid off live in San Mateo County, some of them in South San Francisco, and WHEREAS, the addition of these unemployed people added to the high unemployment rate of metal trades workers in San Mateo County will cause extreme hardship economically for these workers and their faunilies; NOW, THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED that: 1. The City Council of the City of South San Francisco urges the Defense Department to change the phasing out period at Hunters Point Naval Station from one year to four years, and 2. The appropriate Federal agencies immediately embark on a reemployment and retraining program for all Hunters Point employees, and that copies of this Resolution be sent to the two United States Senators representing California, to the Northern California Congressmen, to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, to the North County Council of Cities, the San Mateo County Council of Mayors, and to the press. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of regul ar the City of South San Francisco at a meeting held on the 21st day of 19 75 : by the following vote: AYES: COUNCILMEN NOES, " ABSENT, " May , Patrlck E.
