HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 6097-1973RESOLUTION NO. 6097 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION URGING THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO VETO THE REAPPORTIONMENT PROPOSAL ENDORSED BY THE STATE ASSEMBLY. WHEREAS, the proposed fragmentation of voting areas in the County of San Mateo and other counties of the State of California is in effect a denial of the right to cast a meaningful vote, and WHEREAS, integrity of jurisdictional boundaries of the county within the State of California is a fundamental con- cept of the constitution of the State of California, and WHEREAS, gerrymandering is repugnant to basic principle of a democratic government, and WHEREAS, the economics of such gerrymandering is not in the best interests of the citizens of San Mateo County; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco strongly opposes the action of the Assembly of the State of California by the adoption of the reapportionment bill identified as AB 164. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco hereby solicits and urges the Governor of the great State of California exercise his constitutional responsibility and veto AB 164 and similar legislation which formulates Assembly and Senatorial districts by "gerrymander- ing'' practices. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 4?h day of June lg 75 , by the following vote: AYES, COUNCILMEN Patrick E.
