CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION AMENDING SECTIONS
9.05 AND 14.01, PERSONNEL
RULES AND REGULATIONS.
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South
San Francisco that:
1. Section 9.05 of the Personnel Rules and Regulations
is hereby amended to read
APPOINTMENT
As a prerequisite for employment and appointment the
eligible shall be fingerprinted and identification
verified by the Police Department.
(a) Department Head Classes or Positions.
The City Manager shall make recommendations to
the Council regarding department head class or posi-
tion appointments, Whether same be in or not in the
competitive service. The City Manager may interview
the prospective appointees and make inquiries deemed
necessary to formulate a recommendation. The Council
shall be the appointing power for all department head
classes or positions whether same be in or not in the
competitive service. The Council upon making an appoint-
ment shall notify the City Manager and cause notice to
be given to the appointee. The appointee shall accept
the appointment and report for duty within the time
set by the Council, or the appointment shall be deemed
declined.
(b) Classes or Positions Other Than Department Heads.
Department heads shall make recommendations to the
City Manager regarding class or position appointments
in their respective departments, whether same be in or
not in the competitive service. Department heads may
interview the prospective appointees and make inquiries
deemed necessary to formulate a recommendation. The
City Manager shall be the appointing power for all
such classes or positions, whether in or not in the
competitive service. The City Manager upon making an
appointment shall notify the department head and cause
notice to be given to the appointee. The appointee
shall accept' the appointment and report for duty
within the time set by the City Manager, or the appoint-
ment shall be deemed declined.
2. Section 14.01 of the Personnel Rules and Regulations
is hereby amended to read
14.01 DISCHARGE
An employee in the competitive service may be discharged
as herein provided and as provided in the Personnel Ordinance.

(a) Department Head Classes or Positions.
The City Council shall have the authority to
discharge persons who hold department head positions:
whether in or not in the competitive service, and may
authorize the City Manager to make such a discharge.
(b) Classes or Positions Other Than Department Heads.
The City Manager shall have the authority to
discharge persons who hold positions other than
department head positions, whether in or not in the
competitive service, and may authorize a department
head to make such a discharge of persons holding such
positions in the department.

regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of
