HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 6168-1973 RESOLUTION NO. 6~68 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISC0~ STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION APPROVING AN ADDITION TO THE CLASSIFICA- TION PLAN - CITY ENGINEER BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the classification plan of the City of South San Francisco is hereby amended by adding thereto the "Exhibit A" attached hereto entitled "CITY ENGINEER". I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 4th day of September , 1973, by the following vote: AYES, COUNCILMEN William A. Ahem CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO EXHIBIT A TO RESOLUTION 6~.68 CITY ENGINEER AUGUST 197'3 DEFINITION Under administrative direction, supervises the Engineering Division of the Department of Public Services in connection with the investigation, design, maintenance, construction or inspection of public works projects, performs highly responsible engineering work of a professional nature, and do related work as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is professional engineerinq work requiring thorough familiarity with engineering and surveying principles; the exercise of technic.al judgment on numerous .and important details and the selection of sound engineering procedures t° be followed~ EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Plans, organizes, directs and supervises the activities of the City's Engineering Division, assigns work to and exercises general supervision over office and field personnel in order to effectively utilize their services; ---establishes criteria for design and construction of public works projects, directs the inspection of public works construction by' contractors for conformance to established plans and specifications; prepares work programs and division preliminary budgets, special engineering studies; reviews or disapproves and prepares specifications and obtains bids for construction and maintenance pro3.'ects, conducts negotiations on engineering matters. LICENSE - .. Must possess a valid certification of registration ~s a civil engineer issued by the California State Boar4 of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Kno.wledge of: Civil Engineering principles and practices as applied to the field of municipal public works, includinq planninq and development, design, construction, operations and maintenance; Technical, legal, financial and public relations Droblems involved in the conduct of a municipal public works program; Methods of preparing designs, plans, specifications, estimates, reports and recommendations relating to municipal utilities and proposed public works facilities. and Ability to.' Plan, organize, and supervise the work of the public works ~ program and personnel; Prepare comprehensive and complex technical' reports; Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working City Engineer - Page 2 relationships within the dep~rtment, with 'other municipal officials, and with the public. Experience: Five years of incre~inaly responsible civil en~ineerinq experience in municipal or 'county qovernment, including two years in a supervisory capacity over professional and sub-professional engineering :personne 1. and Education: .Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineerihg Or closely related engineering field. ~: ,
