CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION DECLARING OPPOSITION
TO THE DEPOSIT OF SPOILS IN THE
CARQUINEZ STRAITS DREDGED FROM
MARE ISLAND
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco has been informed that the Navy Department obtained
.permission to dredge the Mare Island channel and dump the
spoils in the Carquinez Straits; and.
~HEREAS, the City Council holds the opinion that
such a deposit of spoils in the Carquinez Straits will adverse-
ly affect the water quality of San Francisco Bay, and the lands
within the corporate limits of South San Francisco adjacent
to the Bay;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council
of the City of South San Francisco:
1. That a request be made by way of this Resolution
to the Regional Water Quality Control Board for the San
Francisco Bay Region to amend any and all permits granted for
said deposit of spoil in the Carquinez Straits so that said
permit requires transpomtation of the spoils outside of
the San Francisco Bay waters as same are dredged from the Mare
Island channel, and that the San Francisco Bay Regional Water
Quality Control Board consider the powers and purposes of the
National Environmental Quality Act of 1969, the Environmental.
Impact Report'required or permitted pursuant thereto, the
regulations of the BCDC,and the interests of the several
counties and cities within the San Francisco Bay region, to
preserve the water quality of the bay and prevent the adverse
affects to the lands within the corporate jurisdiction of said
entities adjacent to the bay:
2. That the City Clerk send a copy of this Resolu-
tion to each member of the Regional Water Quality Control
Board for the San Francisco Bay Region and the executive off i-.
cer thereof, at 364 - 14th Street, Oakland, California;
3. That the City Clerk send a copy of this Resolu-
tion to the County Board of Supervisors for each county within
the Bay Region, the same to be deemed a request to each Board
of Supervisors to consider the passage of a similar Resolu-
tion;
4. That the City Clerk send a copy of this Resolu-
tion to each city within the County of San Mateo, the same to
be deemed a request to each City Council to adopt a similar
Resolution.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was
regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the
City of South San Francisco, at a regular meeting held on
the 5th day of November , 1.973, by the following vote:
