CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE SOUTH SAN
FRANCISCO EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION
PLAN BY ADDING THE CLASS OF EQUIP-
MENT MECHANIC FOREMAN.
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
South San Francisco that the employee Classification Plan
as amended is further amended to add thereto the specifica-
tions for the position of Equipment Mechanic Foreman as
set forth in Exhibit A attached hereto.

EQUIPMENT MECUANIC FOREMAN
DEFINII'ION
___Under supervision, to make major and minor mechanical repairs to automotive
and other power-driven equipment; to provide working supervision, as assigned,
to other shop personnel; and to do related work as required.
'DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERICTICS
Set apart from equipment mechanic in that equipment mechanic foreman will
provide supervision in the absence of the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor;
set apart from Equipment Maintenance Supervisor in that the Equipment
Maintenance Supervisor has overall responsibility, for the City Garage.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Provides working supervision to other shop personnel, inspects, diagnosis,
and locates mechanical difficulties on City automobiles, trucks, and a
variety of maintenance and construction equipment; determines extent of
necessary repairs; overhauls, repairs and adjusts engines, transmissions,
differentials, and clutches; tunes up engines, replacing i~Fnition parts
and cleaning and adjusting carbure,tors; replaces or repairs faulty parts
including wheel bearings, clutches, oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust
systems, steering mechanisms, and related parts and equipment; repairs and
replaces such components as generators, distributors, relays, lights and
switches; installs and maintains special equipment on public safety vehicles;
~aintains work, time, and material records.
LICENSE
Po$5ession of an appropriate California Operator's license issued by the
State Department of Motor Vehicles.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Principles, methods and practices pertaining to the operations of
equipment maintenance and repair facility;
Tools, equipment, lubricants and procedures used in the overhaul,
repair and adjustment of automotive and related power-driven
equ i pment;
Principles and methods used in a program of preventive maintenance;
Safe work practices; and
Ability to:
Inspect automotive ,a.nd related power-driven equipment to locate
difficulties and estimate the cost and time of repairs;
Perform minor and major mechanical repair on City owned mechanical
equipment;
Use a variety of tools and equipment with skill;
Maintain a variety of shop and repair records;
Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
Supervise the work of subordinate personnel; and
Experience: Three years
