HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 6224-1973 RESOLUTION NO. 6224 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION PLAN BY ADDING THE CLASSES OF MAINTENANCE MAN I AND SUPERVISOR CHEMI ST. . BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the employee Classification Plan, as amended, is further amended to add thereto the specifica- tions for the positions of Maintenance Man I, as set forth in Exhibit A attached hereto, and Supervisor Chemist, as set forth in Exhibit B attached hereto I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at-a re§u~ar meeting held on the I?th day of December 19 73, by the following vote- -- AYES, COUNCILMEN Patrick E. ABSENT, None None ATTEST "1" mi ; ri'lill' I:ill EXHIBIT A MAINTENANCE MAN DEFINITION Under supervision to perform a variety of semiskilled and manual tasks involved in the maintenance of City Parks, public works projects, buildin.~s and facilities; and to do related work as required. £STINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the entry level class in the maintenance man series where incumbents perform -a variety of semiskilled and manual tasks. Employees normally work under supervision or as part of a work crew. Although trucks and light equipment may be operated by an incumbent in this class, the equipment is used for tasks that are largely repetitious in nature. Ex3~S OF DUTIES Depending on assignments; assists in the removal and replacement of asphalt and concrete, performs pick and shovel work in diqgin~ trenches and other excavationS, removes weeds and cleans up debris. Assists in general street painting, assists in the maintenance, repair and installation of sewer or drainage lines, waters, mows, weeds, fertilizes, plants and maintains landscaped areas, sweeps , mops, waxes, polishes and washes furniture and maintains public buildings and facilities; performs a variety of general buildin~ maintenance and repair work; repairs a variety of treatment plant equipment; assists in the installation.and 'or repair of sprinkler systems and various types of pipes, operates Dower and automotive equipment, maintains tools, equipment and supplies in pro.Der condition, performs other tasks as required. LICENSE Possession of an appropriate California operators License issued by the State ___Department of Motor Vehicles. )ESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Basic methods, terminolo~v, materials and equipment used in the public maintenance " fields; Safe work practices; and Ability to: Perform semiskilled tasks in construction and repair and maintenance work.- Do heavy manual labor; Understand and carz~/ out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work and EXPERIENCE: One year of experience in general maintenance or labor work. EDUCATION: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. EXHIBIT B o SUPERVISOR CHEMIST DEFINITION · Under direction to plan, assign, supervise and assist the operations of the Treatment Plant's Laboratory; to perform routfne and special chemical and biochemical analysis of water sewage or other materials; to care for laboratory materials and equipment; and to do related work as required. DIS TINGUI SHING CHARACTERISTICS 'This position is responsible for the daily operations of the Treatment Plant Laboratory; for the supervising and training of subordinates, and to perform the more difficult and complex chemical analysis. · EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Lead and perform routine chemical, physical, bacteriological and related laboratory tests on samples of sewage, plant influent and final plant effluent, process analysis including tests of activated sludge mixed liquor, sludge digestion units, industrial wastewaters and receiving water monitoring, including dissolved oxygen, suspended solids, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, hydrogen ion concentration, hea%-~ metals, phenols, ammonia, cyanide and biostimulants, 'prepares reagents and chemical solutions, filter and weigh samples preparatory to further laboratory analysis; cleans and assembles laboratory apparatus and glassware; prepares requests for necessar~ laborator~ , supplies and equipment; makes arithmetic computations; prepares and maintains required . laboratory records and reports including all aiboratory re.ports to State and Federal agencies; supervises and assigns tasks to subordinates; assists and trains subordinates in their duties; outlines laboratory procedures to be followed; helps prepare laboratory .budget and evaluates laboratory personnel; do other related tasks as required. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Principles, methods and techniques of sewage treatment; chemical, bacteriological, physical and biological analysis; Techniques and terminolog~ used in chemical and related laborator~ work; Care and use of laboratory equipment; General principles of supervision; Safe work practices; and Ability to: Perform chemical analysis and related laboratory work; keep accurate records and prepare required reports; Observe proper safety precautions and procedures; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; and · Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible experience in a chemical or biochemical laboratory, of which three .years must be in basic treatment plant chemical analysis work. Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade,' including or supplemented by ___ courses in chemistry, biology and algebra; (appropriate B~chelors or post graduate degree preferred and may be substituted for one to two years experience' respectively. ) LIcENsE: Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
