HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 43-1974 RESOLUTION NO. 4 3-7-4 · CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH 'SAN FRANCISCO,STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AND EXPRESSING INTENTION TO COOPERATE WITH AREA-WIDE APPROACU TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT WHEREAS, the Metpopolitan Transportation Commission is responsible fop compmehensive regional transportation planning for'the Nine County Bay Region' including this municipality, and is likewise responsible for the coordina- tion of the development of public transportation systems and the administmation of certain funds in connection theme- with; and WHEREAS, pursuant to'Resolution No. 44-74 adopted March 4, 1974. by the City Council, the City of South San Francisco has authomized application to the Metro- politan Transportation Commission fop disbursemen~ of funds · for transportation requirements of '~he City under Article.~ (commencing with Section 99260) of Chapter ~ of Part II of Division 10 of the Public Utilities Code (the Mills-Alquist- Deddeh Act;) and WHEREAS, this City Council supports an area-wide approach to public tmanspomtation planning and development and desires to express its intention to-cooperate with othev. municipalities and the County of San Marco in furtheming such planning and development; and WHEREAS, a County-wide bus transportation study has recently been approved by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVE]) bv the Ci'ty Council of the City of South San Francisco as foltows: 1. Th~.s City Council hereby recognizes the value, and encourages the rapid completion of the above-mentioned county-wide tma~sportation study and offers its cooperation in the preparation of said study. 2. This City Coun6il, having authorized applica- tion to the Metropolitan Transportation~ ~ommission pursuant to the above-mentioned Mills-Alquist-Dedd~h Act, respect- fully advises the Commission of its intention, consistent with municipal needs and purposes, to cooperate in the preparation of the above-mentioned county-wide bus transporta- tion study, to integrate its system on an equitable basis with such sub-regional systems as may be established pursuant to the county-wide study, to effect 'mutual transfer points' in the interim with adjacent systems, to respond diligently to reasonable requests fop extension outside its corporate ', limits, to specify equipment which' would not be incompatible with county-wide expansion of bus transportation systems, to" make. temporary arrangement (e.g.~ leases) for capital facili- ties, and generally to provide flexibility in the operation o. and development of this City's bus transportation system.in order to forestall organizational or physical impediments' to further transportation consolidations. 8. This City Council does hereby enthusiastically join with its sister cities and with the County .of San Mateo in a cooperative approach to meeting current problems created by lack of viable and necessary local transit systems in the are a.
