HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 55-1975RESOLUTION NO. 55-75 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION PLAN BY ADDING THE CLASS OF ASSOCIATE CIVIL ENGINEER BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the employee Classification Plan, as amended, is further amended to add thereto the specifications for the position of Associate Civil Engineer, as set forth in Exhibit A attached hereto. Mirri, Leo Padreddii and Warren Steinkamp NOES, " None ABSENT, " None 0, ., EXHIB IT A ' City of South San Francisco April 1975 ASSOCIATE CIVIL ENGINEER DEFINITION Under direction, to perform difficult professional engineering work in the design and construction of public workS; to supervise and train less experienced engineering personnel on assigned projects; and to do related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS An incumbent whose position is assigned to this class is expected to perform, with a minimum of supervision, difficult professional engineering assignments. An incumbent may be assigned technical supervisory responsibility over engineering personnel in lower level classes on specific projects~ An incumbent in this class may also have considerable public contact work with other City department heads and employees, and with public agencies and officials. E¥3~MPLES OF DUTIES Perform the more difficult and complex engineering work in the preparation of plans and specifications for public works improvements, including streets, buildings, and sewers; checks the work of others in plans preparation work and coordinates various phases of an assigned project; reviews and checks plans submitted by outside consultants and engineers for conformance to established standards and specifications; prepares required engineering reports relating to street systems, deficiency studies, truck routes, and street and highway expenditures; confers with supervisor and other engineering staff during preliminary and design stages of work and discusses technical and policy problems; provides technical engineering information to officials of other governmental agencies, other engineers, and the public; conducts specialized technical studies and investigations; may train and evaluate the work of subordinate engineering personnel; may assume responsibility for a complete engineering function or major phase of a program, such as subdivisions, streetlighting~projects, or special traffic studies; prepares correspondence and complex engineering reports. LICENSE Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the State Department of Registration for Civil and Professional Enginee'rs. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION KnoWledge of: Principles and practices of civil engineering; 1. (Exhibit A) Associate Civil Engineer - 2 · Methods of design, construction and maintenance of public works facilities, including'buildings, streets, storm drains, sewers, and traffic signal installations; Strength, properties, and uses of materials in.engineering construction. and Ability to: Prepare engineering estimates, plans, and specification ~ - for proposed public works projects; Perform difficult engineering work in the design and construction of public works projects; Conduct technical engineering research work, make detailed · analysis, and write comprehensive reports; Supervise and assists subordiante engineering personnel; Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Experience: Three years of.increasingly responsible professional civil .engineering experience, preferably including at least one year of experience in a supervisory or lead capacity. and EdUcation: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four- year college or university with a degree in civil engineer- ing or a closely related engineering field.
