CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE $8,650 IN
DONATIONS AND GRANT FUNDING TO SUPPORT THE
LIBRARY'S CHILDREN'S SERVICES AND AMENDING THE
LIBRARY DEPARTMENT'S 2011 -2012 OPERATING BUDGET
WHEREAS, First National Bank made a donation to the City in the amount of $500 to
support the Summer Reading Club; and
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of South San Francisco made a donation to the City in the
amount of $100 to support the Summer Reading Club; and
WHEREAS, the Philanthropic Ventures Foundation made a donation to the City in the
amount of $450 to support the Summer Reading Club; and
WHEREAS, the South San Francisco Friends of the Library made a donation to the City in
the amount of $750 to support the Summer Reading Club; and
WHEREAS, the South San Francisco Host Lions Club made a donation to the City in the
amount of $50 to support the Summer Reading Club; and
WHEREAS, the South San Francisco Police Athletic League made a donation to the City in
the amount of $500 to support the Summer Reading Club; and
WHEREAS, the South San Francisco Rotary Club made a donation to the City in the amount
of $500 to support the Summer Reading Club; and
WHEREAS, South San Francisco Scavenger Company made a donation to the City in the
amount of $500 to support the Summer Reading Club; and
WHEREAS, several library supporters made donations to the City in for a total of $300 to
support the Summer Reading Club; and
WHEREAS, the annual Summer Reading Club program was established to encourage
children and teens to read during the school break; and
WHEREAS, the Amgen Foundation awarded a grant to the City in the amount of $5,000 to
support the Reader Leader program; and
WHEREAS, the Reader Leader program provides tutoring for elementary school children by
teens; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends the acceptance of the grant funding in the amount of $500
from First National Bank, $100 from the Kiwanis Club of South San Francisco, $450 from
Philanthropic Ventures Foundation, $750 from the South San Francisco Friends of the Library, $50
from the South San Francisco Host Lions Club, $500 from the South San Francisco Police Athletic
League, $500 from the South San Francisco Rotary Club, $500 from the South San Francisco
Scavenger Company, $300 from several library supporters to fund the Summer Reading Club, and
$5,000 to support the Reader Leader program; and
WHEREAS, the foregoing grant funds will be used to amend this year's operating budget of
the Library Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that the City Council hereby accepts $500 from First National Bank, $100 from the
Kiwanis Club of South San Francisco, $450 from Philanthropic Ventures Foundation, $750 from the
South San Francisco Friends of the Library, $50 from the South San Francisco Host Lions Club,
$500 from the South San Francisco Police Athletic League, $500 from the South San Francisco
Rotary Club, $500 from the South San Francisco Scavenger Company, $300 from several library
supporters to fund the Summer Reading Club, and $5,000 to support the Reader Leader program and
amends the Library Department's 2011 -2012 Operating Budget in order to reflect an increase of
$8,650.

I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the
City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 23 day of May,
2012 by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Mark Addiego, Karyl Matsumoto, and Kevin Mullin,
Vice Mayor Pedro Gonzalez and Mayor Richard A. Garbarino
