CITY COUNCIL, CITY oF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION IN MEMORY
OF
LEO J. RYAN
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco
that,
WHEREAS, Leo J. Ryan, a man of uncommon sensitivity in perceiving the
feelings and needs of his fellow man, commenced his political career in the
City of South San Francisco, and
WHEREAS, today, after a distinguished career, characterized by courage
and action, he "lies like a warrior taking his rest", and ,
WHEREAS, the members of the City Council share wi th his family and
many friends the deep sorrow caused by his loss, and the admiration for his
contributions as a teacher, ,'.Councilman, Mayor, Assemblyman and Congressman,
and
WHEREAS, a recount of all of his accomplishments cannot embellish his
record and sense of duty which are etched in the memory of his constituents
and colleagues, and
WHEREAS, in this moment of sorrow, it remains for us to remember that
he pursued a course - ".. so I may do the deed that my own soul to itself
has decreed", and succeeded in that pursuit by establishing an enviable
public service legacy;
NOW, THEREFORE, the members of this Council on behalf of the people of

the City of South San Francisco, do join with the family and many friends
of Congressman Leo J. Ryan in sharing the deep sorrow caused by his loss,
and admiration for his contributions· as a teacher, Councilman, Mayor,
Assemblyman and Congressman, anticipating that the significance of his con-
tributions will soften the shock of his premature passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be permanently recorded
in the official records of the City of South San Francisco, and that copies
be presented to the members of the family of Congressman Leo J. Ryan.
Approved by Mayor November 21, 1978.

duced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco
at a special meeting held on the 21stday of November , 1978,
