HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 165-1978 RESOLUTION NO. 165-78 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION PLAN BY THE ADDITION, DELETION, AND MODIFICATION !OF CERTAIN CLASSES BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the employee Classification Plan, as amended, is further amended as follows' I. To Modify the Existing Specifications For The Position Of' a) Building Inspector; as set forth in Exhibit A attached hereto. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly -introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a re.qular meeting held on the 20th day of December , 19 78 , by the following vote: AYES- Councilmen Ronald G. Mirri; and Councilwoman Roberta Cerri Teglia NOES' None ABSENT' None ,'EXHI BIT A" to Resol'ution No. 165-78, adopted 12/20/78 City of South San Francisco December 1978 BUILDING INSPECTOR DEFINITION Under general supervision, to inspect buildings and structures in.all'stages of. construction, alteration'and repair; to'review building'plans and specifications; to enforce Ibuilding, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and zoning codes and laws; to issue permits and Collect fees; a~d to do related work as required. - · . . . DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTIcs IncUmbents in this class are expected to gain experience on the job, to perform joufieyman level inspection Work under general super- vision, in all major fields of inspection including structural,plumbing, mechanical and electrical.. On initial employment, an incumbent who is skilled.in less than the required fields may normally be expected to rapidly acquire proficiency in all fields through on-the-job training. .EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Makes field inspection of building construction, plumbing, or electrical installations in all stages of completion in'residential, business or public buildings to insure compliance with applicable building, electric, plumbing,'mechanical and safety Codes, safety orders, ordinances and regulations; conducts final inspections Of' completed work'giving approval to acceptable structures and installa- tions; investigates violations of building and'zoning laws; spot checks new construction 'projects for compliance with applicable'codes and ordinances;'checks plans and specifications for completeness and accuracy; issues permits and collects fees; provides information to the public regarding building, installation, and zoning requirements; Checks contractors and industrial and commercial businesses to insure they are properly licensed; keeps records and prepares reports of inspections; resolves disagreements and problems concerning inspec- tions and compliances. .. LICENSE Possession of an appropriate California.operator's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Construction procedures, tools and materials; Accepted'safety standards in building'construction work; General provisions of the Uniform Building'Code. and ~UILDING INSPECTOR - 2 Ability to: Learn specific provision of applicable codes, ordinances and regulations enforceable by the City; Apply technical,knowledge of building trades Work, and Use sound inspection methods to examine workmanship and materials; Detect deviations from plans, specifications and standard 'installation. practices; -Read and interpret diagrams, plans and specifications; Make arithmetical'computations rapidly and accurately; Establish and maintain Cooperative working relationships with engineers, architects, contractors and'the general public. and Experieuce' Three (3) years full-time experience in construction or . building _inspection Which provides, a knowledge 6f the vari0us Phases of the building construction field' I.C.B.O.
