HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 28-1979RESOLUTION NO, 28-79 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION PLAN BY THE MODIFICATION OF A CERTAIN CLASS BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the employee Classification Plan, as amended, is further amended as follows: 1. To Modify the Specifications for the Position of: a) Building Inspector; as set forth in Exhibit A. ABSENT: None ATTEST: City C1 e~L~ City of South San Francisco EXHIBIT A Resolution No. 28-79 Adopted 3/21/79 BUILDING INSPECTOR March 1979 DEFINITION- Under general supervision, to inspect buildings and structures in all stages of construction, alteration and repair; to review building plans and specifica- tions; to enforce building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and zoning codes and' laws; to issue permits and collect fees,' and to do related work aS required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Incumbents in this class are expected to gain experience on the job, to perform journeyman level inspection work under general supervision in all major fields. of inspection including structural, plumbing, mechanical and electrical. On ini.tial employment, an incumbent who is skilled in less than the required fields~may normally be expected to rapidly acquire proficiency in all fields through on-the-job training. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- Makes field inspection of building construction, plumbing, or electrical inst~lla- tions in all stages, of completion in residential, business or public buildings to insure compliance with applicable building, electric, plumbing, mechanical and safety codes, safety orders, ordinances add regulations; conducts final inspections of-completed work giving approval to acceptable structures and installations; investigates violations of building and zoning laws; spot checks new construction' projects for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances; checks plans and specifications for completeness and accuracy; issues permits and col)ects fees; provides information to the public regarding building, installation, and zoning requirements; checks contractors and industrial and commercial businesses to insure they arel properly licensed; keeps records and prepares reports of inspections; resolves disagreements and problems concerning inspections and compliances. LICENSE' Possession of an appropriate California operator's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Construction procedures, tools and materials; Accepted safety standards in building construction work; General provisions of the Uniform Building Code. and · BUILDING INSPECTOR- 2 Ability to: Learn specific provision of applicable codes, ordinances and regulations enforceable by the City; Ap.ply technical knowledge of building trades work and use sound inspection methods to examine' workmanship and materials; . Detect deviations from plans, 'specifications and standard installation practices; Read and interpret diagrams, plans and specifications; Make arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with engineers, architects, contractors and the general public. and Experience- Two (2) years combination building inspection experience with a City or County, or thnee (3) years of journeyman level experience~in the major building trades. I.C.B.'O. Certification preferred. and Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade,'
