HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 142-1980 RESOLUTION NO. 142-80 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE NATIONAL ITALIAN AMERICAN EARTHQUAKE RELIEF FUND WHEREAS, on November 23, 1980 a catastrophic earthquake struck Southern Italy; and WHEREAS, that earthquake destroyed entire towns, killed thousands of people and injured or left homeless innumerable others; and WHEREAS, the Town of Morra di Santis having a population of about 2,500 people was one of those towns totally destroyed by the earthquake; and WHEREAS, the magnitude of the earthquake and the geographic conditions of the area in which it struck has made it extremely difficult for the Italian Government to respond; and WHEREAS, there is an effort underway in the Bay Area to monetarily support the building of a hospital or o{her community edifice in Morra di Santis; and WHEREAS, such a building will be a practical expression of the spirit of love and caring of our people for the people of Italy; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that this Council supports the spirit of the effort of the National Italian American Earthquake Relief Fund and expresses its hope that the effort to build a hospital or other community edifice achieves success and strengthens the bond between our two peoples.
