HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 15-1981 RESOLUTION NO. 15-81 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING PROPOSED INSPECTION/ MAINTENANCE PROGRAM DEVELOPED BY LOCAL AIR POLLUTION DISTRICTS AS ESTABLISHED IN SB 33 WHEREAS, the Clean Air Act as amended in 1977 requires that an inspection and maintenance program for automobiles be authorized by the State Legislature, and WHEREAS, such a program would significantly reduce emissions from motor vehicles, and WHEREAS, such reductions of emissions would aid in the improvement of air quality in the Bay Area, and WHEREAS, the EPA has proposed to withhold 850 million dollars in sewage and highway construction funds from California because it has failed to comply with the Clean Air Act requirements for an Inspection/Maintenance Program, and WHEREAS, local air pollution control districts have developed an Inspec- tion/Maintenance Program, and WHEREAS, this has been introduced as SB 33 by Senator Presley, and WHEREAS, this program will achieve the necessary reduction of emissions and provide consumer protection and would aid in the improvement of air quality, and WHEREAS, the Association of Bay Area Governments and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission have endorsed the proposal on an inspection and main- tenance program, and WHEREAS, SB 33 will be heard by the Senate Transportation Committee within the next few weeks. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the City of South San Francisco supports the proposed Inspection/ Maintenance program developed by local air pollution control districts as estab- lished in SB 33, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco urges the Senate Transportation Committee to favorably consider SB 33. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 4th day of FP. bruary , 1981, by the following vote' AYES' Councilmen Ronald G.
