CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION URGING THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE
TO ACQUIRE SWEENEY RIDGE AND TO MAKE IT A PART
OF THE ~GOLDEN'GATE ~NATIONAL'RECREATION'AREA
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco,
California, that:
WHEREAS, funds were appropriated by Congress in Public Law 97-100 for the
acquisition of the property known as "Sweeney Ridge;" and
WHEREAS, this property is an essential part of the area authorized by
Congress for extending the Golden Gate National Recreation Area into San Mateo
County, and is needed both for tying together parcels of land that already are
in public ownership, and for providing public access to those lands; and
WHEREAS., this property is in itself parkland of high quality, providing
spectacular views, clean mountain air, a feeling of remoteness from city life;
terrain suitable for hiking and horseback riding, and habitat for many native
plants and animals; and
WHEREAS, the residentS of the City of South San Francisco will benefit
greatly from this acquisition, and from the extension of the Goden Gate National
Recreation Area into San Mateo County;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED AS FOLLOWS:
1. This Council of the City of South San Francisco, hereby endorses the
acquisition of the Sweeney Ridge property by the National. Park Service, and re-
quests that the acquisition be completed by February 14, 1982, in order to obtain
the land at the lowest possible price.
2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution
to elected Representatives in Washington, to President Ronald Reagan, and to
Secretary of the Interior James Watt.

and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular
meeting held on the 3rd day of February , 1982, by the following vote'
