CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING EDWIN R. SIMPSON
WHEREAS, Edwin R. Simpson is retiring on December 17, 1982 after twenty-
seven (27) years and two and one-half months of service with the Fire Department
of the City of South San Francisco, during which period he faithfully served the
City; and
WHEREAS, he was first employed by the City of South San Francisco's Fire
Department as a Firefighter on October 1, 1955, and has been a member of the
International Association of Firefighters, Local 1507; and
WHEREAS, he has demonstrated outstanding leadership abilities and was pro-
moted to the position of Fire Captain in April of 1966, to Acting Fire Marshal
in June of 1979, and later in June of 1980 was promoted to Fire Marshal, based
on his dedication and leadership abilities; and
WHEREAS, he has coached the Police Athletic League Baseball Program, Fire
Department team, in the Midget Program for fifteen (15) years, and in 1976 he
coached them to the championship; and
WHEREAS, he has served as Secretary/Treasurer of the South San Francisco
Fire Department Widows and Orphans Association, and as Secretary/Treasurer of
the South San Francisco Credit Union for twelve (12) years; and
WHEREAS, Edwin R. Simpson and his charming wife Fran are the proud parents
of a beautiful pair of twins, named Laura and Steven, and the twins are twenty-
nine (29) years of age; and
WHEREAS, Edwin R. Simpson is well known for his aggressive firefighting
tactics which he applied many times during his tenure as a fire suppression
Captain; and
WHEREAS, he has helped protect the City of South San Francisco for more
than twenty-seven (27) years of service, and his dedication to justice, fairness
and high morals are in the highest tradition of the Fire Department;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco that it does hereby express appreciation to Edwin R. Simpson for his
dedicated services to the City of South San Francisco and does order this
Resolution incorporated in the official records of the City as this Council's
expression and its wishes for his long and happy retirement.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and
adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular
meeting held on the 5th day of January , 1~ 8~3, by the following vote-
