HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 6-1983RESOLUTION NO. 6-83 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION COMMENDING GIL CASTRO WHEREAS, Gil Castro is retiring on December 28, 1982 after twenty-five (25) years of service to the City of South San Francisco; and WHEREAS, he was first employed by the South San Francisco Fire Department on January 1, 1958, and has been a member of the International Association of Firefighters, Local 1507; and WHEREAS, he was appointed to the Fire Prevention Bureau and Investigation Bureau as an Arson Inspector in the capacity of Deputy Fire Marshal on September 16, 1968; and WHEREAS, he was the first Fireman on the Peninsula to be admitted to the Police Academy, graduated as a Peace Officer in 1972, and was appointed Arson Investigator, having investigated approximately one thousand (1000) fires for cause and origin, and has been qualified in California Courts as an expert witness; and WHEREAS, he was instrumental in organizing the San Mateo County Arson Investigation Unit, serving as Chairman, and instrumental in organizing a semi- nar for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in San Francisco as an instructor; and WHEREAS, he has attended the National Fire Academy, the Fire Service Academy at Asilomar, Pacific Grove, Advanced Arson Investigation at Fresno City College, California State Fire Marshal Certificate of Professional Development Arson and Bomb Investigation Unit, California Specialized Training Institute, Arson Investigation, Advanced Arson Investigation, and the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and classes of the Internal Revenue Service Investigative Techniques; and WHEREAS, Gil Castro was a member of the South San Francisco Fire Department Widows and Orphans Association, and the California Peace Officers Association, California Conference of Arson Investigations; and WHEREAS, he and his charming wife Cecilia have three wonderful children, Gil, Jr., Deen and Pam, and they also have a lovely granddaughter, Nicki; and WHEREAS, Gil Castro has helped to protect this City over twenty-five (25) years of service, and his dedication to justice, fairness and high morals are in the highest tradition of the Fire Department: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that it does hereby express appreciation to Gil Castro for his dedi- cated services to the City of South San Francisco and does order this Resolution incorporated in the official records of the City as this Council's expression and its wishes for his long and happy retirement. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a reqular meeting held on the 5th day of January , 19. ~3, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Ronald G.
