HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 33-1983RESOLUTION NO. 33-83 CITY COUNCIL CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION PLAN BY THE MODIFICATION OF A CLASSIFICATION BE IT RESOLVED By the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that the Employee Classification Plan, as amended, is further amended as follows' 1. To modify specifications for the position of' a). Communications Dispatcher as set forth in Exhibit "A" attached hereto. "Approved by City Council Resolution No. 33-83 adopted 3/16/83 ." Damonte, Gus Nicolopulos; and Roberta Cerri Teglia None EXHIBIT "A" CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHER March 1983 DEFINITION: Assignment to a public Safety communications center. Under general super- vison, to receive and trasmit routine and emergency telephone and radio traffic. Dispatch and coordinate police, fire, public works and other municipal equipment via multi-frequency two-way radio. Maintain and process a variety of com- munications reports, records, and radio logs. Do related work as required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: On an assigned shift, receives and disposes of incoming telephone and voice radio calls for police, fire, ambulance, and public works; in emergencies, secures and records information as to exact locations and circumstances, and uses radio or other equipment to dispatch appropriate units to the emergency scene; maintains radio contact with local units on assignment and, under super- vision, directs and coordinates with personnel from other agencies on a mutual aid basis; maintains radio logs and records other information as required; operates a multi-channel two-way radio, centrex telephone system, teletype, data terminal, voice intercom, fire alarm, intrusion alarm equipment, and other equipment as needed; provides a variety of information to the general public by telephone; performs and assists in communications related clerical functions as required. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to: Think clearly and act quickly in emergency situations; Gather, analyze, and evaluate information and independently assess and disseminate the information clearly to field units; Work irregular hours; Learn the operation of radio equipment and related information systems; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; Type at a speed of 20 words per minute; Demonstrate orientation toward public service; Speak in a clear and understandable voice, using good English and proper enunciation. and EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of work experience requiring maturity and the ability to accept responsibility, preferably involving some public contact. and EDUCATION: High school graduate or GED equivalent; Additional education in fire science or law enforcement; or communications experience in military or public safety service desirable. and L I CENSE: A Federal Communications Commission Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit is required after the date of hire.
