HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 57-1983 RESOLUTION NO. 57-83 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING 1955 AS THE "YEAR OF THE BIBLE" WHEREAS, the 9?th Congress of the United States on October 4, 1982 approved Public Law 9?-280 authorizing and requesting the President to proclaim 19~$ as the "Year of the Bible" in recognition of the national need to study and apply the teachings of the Holy Scriptures and the informative influence which the Bible has brought to this great Nation~ and WHEREAS~ the Bible, as the Word of God, has been a significant and moving influence, particularly to the people of our community~ and WHEREAS, the renewing of our knowledge and our faith in God pays tribute to the religious teachings in all of the faiths represented in our City, and these religious concepts and convictions are inspirational to our city government, 'our families, and our community~ and WHEREAS, this City desires to wholeheartedly support and acknowledge the request made to the President to proclaim 1955 as the "Year of the Bible"; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that it does hereby express its recognition and faith in the teachings of the Holy Scriptures and does order this resolution incorporated in the Official Records of the City as this Counsel's expression of its religious conviction that the Bible can strengthen our community and our Nation for a challenging future. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this City Council directs that this Resolution be transmitted to: President Ronald Reagan I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 5th day of May · ~985, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Ronald G.
