HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 59-1983 RESOLUTION NO. 59-83 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA A RESOLUTION COMMENDING GEORGE McQUADE WHEREAS, George McQuade was first employed as a Firefighter on February 16, 1955 and is retiring on May $, 1955 after over twenty-eight years of service with the Fire Department of the City of South San Francisco, during which he served as a Fire Department Supply Officer for the past two years, and he should be commended for not taking any sick leave since September 11, 1966; and WHEREAS, in 1967, George McQuade received the Award of Merit, which is one of the highest awards given by the Boy Scouts of America, and in 1970, he received the "Outstanding Citizen Award" from the Chamber of Commerce for his work as Scout Master with the Boy Scouts at Tanforan Naval Base, which included two Scout Troops, one of which consisted of handicapped boys, and he has received recognition for Eagle Scout Award Programs; and WHEREAS, during his more than twenty-eight years of service he has received letters of appreciationfor his compassion and aid to victims of fires and medical emergencies, and on October 27, 1975 he received the "KIND Award" from the Penin- sula Humane Society for showing great courage and respect for life by removing a kitten from a burning vehicle; and WHEREAS, on November 9, 1952, he was awarded a Proclamation from the Mayor of this City naming him the "Official Resident Magician", and proclaiming November 9th as "Mystical McQuade Day" for his performance of magical feats at the Annual Fire Prevention Poster Awards luncheons, which brought joy and amusement to these pro- grams; and WHEREAS~ he has Charter memberships in the International Association of Firefighters~ Local 1507~ and in the South San Francisco Fire Department Widows and Orphans Association~ and WHEREAS~ he and his charming wife~ Laveta~ are the proud parents of three children~ two sons and a daughter~ NOW~ THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco that it does hereby express appreciation to George McQuade for his dedication to justices fairness and high morals in the highest tradition of the Fire Department and his service to the City of South San Francisco and does order this Resolution incorporated in the official records of the City as this Council's expression and its wishes for his long and happy retirement. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was regularly introduced and adopted by the City Council of the City of South San Francisco at a regular meeting held on the 4th day of May , 1985, by the following vote: AYES: ~ouncilmembers Ronald G.
